Poems for people - tribute from A Treasury of Gary W. Long's Writings

18th Jun 2025

At two-fourteen, the stop was made:
The unseen guest had come;
“Angels Express” then swept away,
And took our sister home.

She did not fear the river death,
We knew the reason why:
Her Lord did call, and so she left,
She had no fear to die.

She was prepared: her soul was saved,
For Jesus paid the whole;
Her body failed, her heart gave out,
But ’twas well with her soul.

She longed to part and be with Christ,
Whose love she truly knew;
Home was ahead and there Christ stood,
So to His feet she flew.

She leaves behind an empty place,
And many eyes that weep;
But, O the joy, she’s now with Him,
Who forgives and shall keep.

Goodbye dear one, we shall you miss,
And rest in what we’ve heard;
Nothing is left can ease the pain,
We trust His holy Word.

Our hope, like yours, is in the King,
Who says, “Come unto Me;”
Our sins, like yours, forgiven all,
’Tis all you’d have us see.

This is a tribute Bro. Gary Long wrote in 2018 on the occasion of the passing of the wife of one of our church's deacons. You can find it in the section entitled, "Poems for People", in A Treasury of Gary W. Long's Writings.
