"What Movest Me" - a poem from A Treasury of Gary W. Long's Writings

11th Jun 2025

A poem from A Treasury of Gary W. Long's Writings, the humorous section:

What Movest Me

Methinks there be a coming snow,
E’en cupboard search, the vict’als low,
“Dost thou desire I hurried go
To market place where thou dost know,
The keeper there still do I owe
From snowy day some time ago?”

Methinks these clouds do only show,
A-frowning face to “off” us throw.
I would be gone except it’s so,
Me back still aches, down very low,
Where wife’s swift kick did bidst me go.

Methinks again that face aglow,
While in her hand, she takes me tow,
Then hits the path, and not too slow,
For wify’s foot will sure to grow,
On my backside, she thinks the foe.

Me fears not wind if hard it blows,
But Oh me wife can sure bestow,
The foot that moves me will to go,
Come rain or wind or coldest snow.
