A Summer Visit - the 3rd section in Anthology of Early Baptists in Rhode Island

15th Jul 2020

The third section in our forthcoming book, An Anthology of the Early Baptists in Rhode Island, is A Summer Visit of Three Rhode Islanders to the Massachusetts Bay in 1651: An account of the visit of Dr. John Clarke, Obadiah Holmes and John Crandall, members of the Baptist church in Newport, R.I., to William Witter of Swampscott, Mass., in July 1651: its innocent purpose and its painful consequences, by Henry Melville King. This section describes the incident where Obadiah Holmes was whipped in Boston for his faith as depicted in this 2004 painting by Don Adair, which was commissioned by the Baptist History Preservation Society.
