Review of the 9th section of Anthology of Early Baptists in Rhode Island

26th Aug 2020

The ninth section in our latest book, An Anthology of the Early Baptists in Rhode Island, is An editorial review of Samuel Adlam's, The First Baptist Church in Providence, Not the Oldest of the Baptists in America, published in The Christian Review, April 1851. A quote from the review reads:

"...but allowing these [facts] to be correct, we are free to confess that the general view of which we have given an outline above, though novel and singular, has about it many marks of plausibility and truth. The fact that it contradicts the settled opinion of several successive generations, furnishes of course a strong presumption against it, and requires that it be well supported by reasons which cannot be controverted. But if it be thus supported, it will not fail sooner or later to find its way into the histories which may hereafter be written, of the planting of our denomination in America."

The Anthology is now available for purchase. Hardback, indexed and illustrated. 934 pages. $36. Get your copy today!
