Review of the essay "Developing a Ministerial Profile. . . "

"Terry Wolever understood the importance of biography in providing models for faithful ministry and Christian piety. His biographical contributions through Particular Baptist Press will live on and continue to shape generations of pastors and scholars. In that same spirit, this chapter explores the character expectations and ministerial responsibilities of Georgia Baptist pastors in the nineteenth century using a biographical compendium to develop a ministerial profile. This study is not to suggest that the Baptist pastor of the nineteenth century was ideal; rather, it is simply looking back in time to understand how pastors viewed their calling and were viewed by others at a time when Baptists were able to worship freely but had not yet tasted the success of denominational professionalism that would occur in the twentieth century."
